What book should I buy?

Great question! I learned from Alfred's beginner piano book and highly recommend it to beginners and children.

Should I get my piano tuned?

Maybe. It depends how important good sound is to you and your family. I would say yes if you have the budget and enjoy good sound. A typical piano tuning costs around $115 and is well-worth it to keep your instrument in good condition for the long-run and to properly train your ears.
